The Department of Theatre and Dance within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego (http://theatre.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The department seeks an experienced theatre professional to teach in our MFA professional actor training program. Preference will be given to scholars at the Assistant or Associate level, but applicants with extraordinary experience or qualifications may be considered at another rank. Applicants with considerable professional experience who have also taught in academic or professional studio settings are strongly preferred. Applicant should have significant experience in contemporary genres, including new plays. In addition to having demonstrated the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity, the preferred candidates will demonstrate strong leadership or experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting. Brown University and Trinity Repertory Company seek a Head of Directing for the Brown/Trinity MFA Program. An outstanding artist and educator will advise, teach and guide six MFA directing students; design and implement a curriculum for the three-year directing program that includes participation of 45 acting students; oversee part-time directing and design affiliated artists; coordinate and supervise approximately fifteen student productions per year; select incoming directing students; direct in the Trinity Repertory season with the professional resident acting company; demonstrate substantial regional and/or New York directing experience; and be willing to move to Providence. We seek someone with a powerful understanding of director training and a solid grounding in actor training, a comprehensive resume in the professional arena, and a successful track record in administration, budgeting and leadership. The Head of Directing will hold an appointment in Brown's Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, where the candidate may teach or direct as time allows. The term of employment begins July 1, 2011 with full-time responsibilities from late August to late May.
